Podcast Movement Kickstarter

Jared got his start in the podcasting world by launching his first podcast, Starve The Doubts. He was so determined to find someone else to accomplish outside of his 9 to 5 sales job. Jared felt the need to do something else with his life even though he was crushing it at his job.

Jared decided he wanted to start podcasting as a way to fulfill his creative needs. He couldn’t afford formal classes from Cliff Ravenscraft, but decided to email Cliff and find out if he could work with him on a payment plan. Cliff graciously agreed to work with him on the $800 fee by hashing out a payment plan.

While attending a conference that incorporated some aspects of podcasting, he overheard some people talking about how they wish there was a conference dedicated to podcasting. That’s when he got the idea to take the initiative and start his own conference, but he didn’t know what he was going to do next.

mainnewEventually Jared contacted Gary from Podcamp Dallas about joining forces and starting up a podcast conference in Dallas, Texas. Together they started recruiting both volunteers and podcast friends to speak at the event. Jared also shows how just asking for something can turn into a great opportunity. He contacted Phillip Taylor and got an hour long phone call together, where Gary and Jared could ask lots of questions to get them on their conference starting way!

As a proof of concept, Jared reached out to his podcast friends to reach out to their listeners with their email lists. This allowed Podcast Movement to really start moving forward. Podcast Movement got it’s biggest boost when in the first 9 hours of posting to KickStarter, they raised the $11,000 that they were asking for to rent a conference center in Dallas. At the end of the 30 days on Kickerstarter, they had found themselves with over $30,000!

To date, they have sold more than 550 tickets for the conference, being held on August 16 and 17th in Dallas, Texas. If you can’t make it to Dallas, they are selling virtual tickets that will offer up HD video recordings of every speaker and panel!

I recommend everyone go and check out Podcast Movement even if you are only a little bit interested in Podcasting!

10
[00:00:42],300 –> [00:00:43],19

sticks and stones my friend but hey it’s
an honor to be on your show and yeah

12
[00:00:46],620 –> [00:00:50],550
dude i hope that everyone listen to this
podcast they don’t think of anything

13
[00:00:50],550 –> [00:00:54],269
else that they don’t have any other take
away if they just keep hitting play on

14
[00:00:54],269 –> [00:00:57],119
this podcast consistently it’s going to
encourage him it’s going to give new

15
[00:00:57],119 –> [00:00:58],259
ideas

16
[00:00:58],259 –> [00:01:02],489
it’s just going to open them up to new
things and that right there is a win

17
[00:01:02],489 –> [00:01:04],559
that is a step towards success

18
[00:01:04],559 –> [00:01:09],179
that’s a step toward accomplishing a
dream so I hope that everyone will keep

19
[00:01:09],180 –> [00:01:12],270
hitting play on your show but i’m gonna
i’m completely honored to be here thanks

20
[00:01:12],270 –> [00:01:12],720
man

21
[00:01:12],720 –> [00:01:16],289
thank you i’m honored to have you on
here I mean you doing big things and and

22
[00:01:16],290 –> [00:01:19],770
you’re just in the infancy of your
podcasting career so we get started by

23
[00:01:19],770 –> [00:01:21],270
giving some background about yourself

24
[00:01:21],270 –> [00:01:26],130
well thank you I I my name is Jared and
always introduce myself when I’m talking

25
[00:01:26],130 –> [00:01:30],630
to females always say my name is Jared
like the jewelry store and there’s a

26
[00:01:30],630 –> [00:01:34],649
little song it could only be Jared and
they sing it to me and then they always

27
[00:01:34],650 –> [00:01:37],380
ask me the question you know cuz I’m
married I got a ring on my finger and

28
[00:01:37],380 –> [00:01:41],520
they say did you go to jared’s night the
answer’s no i didn’t i don’t think that

29
[00:01:41],520 –> [00:01:45],720
could have afforded Jared’s at the time
anyway and want to introduce myself to

30
[00:01:45],720 –> [00:01:50],39
guys always say my name is Jared like
the subway guy and most most people know

31
[00:01:50],40 –> [00:01:54],900
what that is so and then my last name is
easily so they’ll say it’s my last names

32
[00:01:54],900 –> [00:01:59],549
easily to remember so when I say those
things it’s cheesy but most people

33
[00:01:59],549 –> [00:02:03],330
remember my name and like you said I
podcasting for a little over a year i

34
[00:02:03],330 –> [00:02:07],350
got over a hundred episodes and I would
never imagine the opportunities that

35
[00:02:07],350 –> [00:02:11],700
would have opened up from just starting
a podcast but it’s it’s phenomenal the

36
[00:02:11],700 –> [00:02:16],319
way podcasting can connect people just
like tonight Joe you and I have just

37
[00:02:16],319 –> [00:02:19],18
talked for a few minutes but i have no
doubt that you and I are going to become

38
[00:02:19],19 –> [00:02:23],69
friends on facebook and we’re going to
connect and and that’s just kind of the

39
[00:02:23],69 –> [00:02:28],48
way this works is assessed the generous
community and lots of neat things are

40
[00:02:28],49 –> [00:02:33],120
happening but long story short is you
know I i started a podcast and that now

41
[00:02:33],120 –> [00:02:35],850
some cool things are starting to develop
from

42
[00:02:35],850 –> [00:02:40],260
that simple thing and trying that out
and I don’t have all the answers but I’m

43
[00:02:40],260 –> [00:02:41],190
learning a lot

44
[00:02:41],190 –> [00:02:46],290
yeah it’s it’s amazing how quick you can
come into something especially something

45
[00:02:46],290 –> [00:02:50],549
that requires so much technical
background from so many different angles

46
[00:02:50],550 –> [00:02:56],280
whether it’s marketing or its talking
hordes editing or having a knife or

47
[00:02:56],280 –> [00:03:00],180
graphic arts website development you
know that it’s crazy how all these

48
[00:03:00],180 –> [00:03:02],250
things can come together for one person

49
[00:03:02],250 –> [00:03:05],250
well that I appreciate you even
mentioning that because for those who

50
[00:03:05],250 –> [00:03:10],80
are listening right now I’m looking on a
video on skype i can see Joe’s studio

51
[00:03:10],80 –> [00:03:14],790
setup he has quite the setup it is a
fantastic set up i’m sure it was the

52
[00:03:14],790 –> [00:03:19],980
opposite of inexpensive hey this is
probably an investment of substantial

53
[00:03:19],980 –> [00:03:22],920
investment that you’ve made into your
equipment and you sound amazing

54
[00:03:22],920 –> [00:03:27],149
everything’s awesome and then there’s me
and I’m a fortunate to be a guest on

55
[00:03:27],150 –> [00:03:32],550
your show but I’m literally talking into
a forty-dollar audio-technica USB mic

56
[00:03:32],550 –> [00:03:38],340
that’s plugged into a pc and it’s not
fancy but it’s worked for me so that’s

57
[00:03:38],340 –> [00:03:41],580
the nice thing you can really go all in
and podcasting and make this heavy

58
[00:03:41],580 –> [00:03:45],000
investment and that’s worth it and if
you don’t have the budget to do that you

59
[00:03:45],000 –> [00:03:49],620
can still do big things with a USB mic
so cool opportunities for everybody but

60
[00:03:49],620 –> [00:03:55],590
now I mean my set up specifically for
podcasting was just a mic the blue Yeti

61
[00:03:55],590 –> [00:03:59],370
the arm and everything came after the
fact and I you know I don’t have to have

62
[00:03:59],370 –> [00:04:03],690
the arm but really love that centers
around the mic in you sound great for

63
[00:04:03],690 –> [00:04:06],420
forty dollar USB mic I’ll take it

64
[00:04:06],420 –> [00:04:12],299
I i like your setup man I’m i want i was
just saying before we hit record that we

65
[00:04:12],300 –> [00:04:15],900
have pod move university you know if
we’re gonna tell a story now but Padma

66
[00:04:15],900 –> [00:04:20],10
university we’re looking for podcasters
you want to share their expertise and I

67
[00:04:20],10 –> [00:04:23],400
was telling Joe man i’d love to have you
shoot a little video just explaining

68
[00:04:23],400 –> [00:04:25],80
your setup you know so

69
[00:04:25],80 –> [00:04:28],740
hey maybe coming soon on partner
universities see Joe part of the studio

70
[00:04:28],740 –> [00:04:32],10
yeah would love to be a part of it

71
[00:04:32],10 –> [00:04:35],400
very cool so what would you say
podcasting means to you

72
[00:04:35],400 –> [00:04:40],859
podcasting is I mean anyways listen
right now you’re you got the ear buds in

73
[00:04:40],860 –> [00:04:42],300
and that was me

74
[00:04:42],300 –> [00:04:48],120
it still is me I think there’s a lot of
down time that you can reclaim and you

75
[00:04:48],120 –> [00:04:49],440
can learn something

76
[00:04:49],440 –> [00:04:53],370
or you can have a laugh whether it’s
being informed and entertained a podcast

77
[00:04:53],370 –> [00:04:56],460
is great and you gotta reclaim that
downtime if you’re driving or if you’re

78
[00:04:56],460 –> [00:05:00],719
walking the dog or whatever you’re doing
and so for me podcasting is just open up

79
[00:05:00],720 –> [00:05:04],440
a whole new world of made a lot of
amazing relationships to the connections

80
[00:05:04],440 –> [00:05:08],190
through interviews and things I’ve done
my show through gracious people like

81
[00:05:08],190 –> [00:05:11],730
yourself being willing to have a
conversation with me so I i say

82
[00:05:11],730 –> [00:05:16],530
podcasting i think is a movement there
is a conference called podcast movement

83
[00:05:16],530 –> [00:05:20],640
and it’s in august $YEAR in dallas texas
and Joe I don’t know if you’re going to

84
[00:05:20],640 –> [00:05:24],960
make it this year but hopefully next
year but podcast movement is an event

85
[00:05:24],960 –> [00:05:30],180
and it’s the first year and it’s just
all these passionate podcasters coming

86
[00:05:30],180 –> [00:05:35],70
together wanting to take that skill and
develop it further and continue to grow

87
[00:05:35],70 –> [00:05:38],460
those connections and builder network
and just make the world a better place

88
[00:05:38],460 –> [00:05:41],640
the podcasting and I think that’s
definitely possible more people getting

89
[00:05:41],640 –> [00:05:44],99
into it and we haven’t seen anything yet

90
[00:05:44],100 –> [00:05:46],950
let’s talk about podcast move while
we’re on the topic how did that get

91
[00:05:46],950 –> [00:05:47],580
started

92
[00:05:47],580 –> [00:05:51],30
well podcast movement this is the first
year it hasn’t even happened yet it’s

93
[00:05:51],30 –> [00:05:55],919
going to happen august $DAY of $MONTH
2014 in dallas texas and basically there

94
[00:05:55],919 –> [00:06:01],109
was no podcast conference would just
blew my mind

95
[00:06:01],110 –> [00:06:06],419
there were events that had podcasting as
a piece of the event but nothing

96
[00:06:06],419 –> [00:06:10],830
specific for podcasters by podcasters
now remember being an event called New

97
[00:06:10],830 –> [00:06:16],260
Media Expo this past January walking out
of one of the pod casting sessions for

98
[00:06:16],260 –> [00:06:20],430
the podcasting track and I heard someone
say in a conversation I was not a part

99
[00:06:20],430 –> [00:06:25],590
of why is there no podcasting conference
and I remember hearing that and just

100
[00:06:25],590 –> [00:06:27],840
saying man I thought that for months

101
[00:06:27],840 –> [00:06:31],979
why is there no podcast conference and
then the following day came out of

102
[00:06:31],980 –> [00:06:34],740
another session completely different
session different person

103
[00:06:34],740 –> [00:06:38],580
I heard it again someone else completely
different thing

104
[00:06:38],580 –> [00:06:42],390
why is their podcast conference and I
knew right then Jose like okay

105
[00:06:42],390 –> [00:06:47],190
hello that’s the market hit I’ve
listened to enough business podcast to

106
[00:06:47],190 –> [00:06:51],900
know that you know that you want to look
for what the market wants right and I

107
[00:06:51],900 –> [00:06:57],299
heard people saying it i was thinking it
and writing it registered ok I don’t do

108
[00:06:57],300 –> [00:07:00],460
this if I don’t find a group and put
this together

109
[00:07:00],460 –> [00:07:04],719
and there’s take away their no over that
in a second but if I didn’t act on that

110
[00:07:04],720 –> [00:07:09],160
I knew someone else would eventually and
I would be completely left out and I I

111
[00:07:09],160 –> [00:07:14],20
just felt compelled to do it so I knew I
wouldn’t be able to carry a task like

112
[00:07:14],20 –> [00:07:18],969
this by myself like this is a lot to do
to put together an event there’s just a

113
[00:07:18],970 –> [00:07:23],830
lot of crazy intricacies and angles and
different things to consider and I don’t

114
[00:07:23],830 –> [00:07:28],389
have that background and events so i
knew i needed to have other people to

115
[00:07:28],389 –> [00:07:30],370
help me to make this work

116
[00:07:30],370 –> [00:07:34],960
long story short connected with the
gentleman who put together podcamp

117
[00:07:34],960 –> [00:07:41],680
ballast which is just a regional podcamp
it’s a one-day event once a year and it

118
[00:07:41],680 –> [00:07:45],430
had grown over the last few years and
his name to Gary I went to Gary and

119
[00:07:45],430 –> [00:07:50],470
asked hey Gary could we potentially grow
could we potentially grow your podcamp

120
[00:07:50],470 –> [00:07:55],389
that you put on into a national
conference for podcasting and he said

121
[00:07:55],389 –> [00:07:58],780
well I i’m interested in that but I just
don’t want to try to take that on myself

122
[00:07:58],780 –> [00:08:01],780
like I could never manage that myself
and I was like well that’s where I come

123
[00:08:01],780 –> [00:08:05],710
in and that’s where you know we’re gonna
get some other people to come in and we

124
[00:08:05],710 –> [00:08:09],70
agreed on to other people when
gentleman’s name is Dan Frank’s is just

125
[00:08:09],70 –> [00:08:13],990
been a workhorse he’s been an all-star
he’s a CPA outstanding with wordpress an

126
[00:08:13],990 –> [00:08:17],710
online business he used to be a former
professional wrestler which i think is

127
[00:08:17],710 –> [00:08:23],560
hilarious and he’s only 28 years old
which is like to the guy is amazing and

128
[00:08:23],560 –> [00:08:27],759
then there’s another gentleman named
itch tide and the team we got together

129
[00:08:27],759 –> [00:08:33],10
and they were like none of us to put on
a conference so I mean you know Gary had

130
[00:08:33],10 –> [00:08:36],399
put on podcamp that’s that’s like
nothing compared to what we were

131
[00:08:36],399 –> [00:08:40],570
dreaming forward this is the power of
podcasting which we just alluded to

132
[00:08:40],570 –> [00:08:44],110
earlier is I had an interview on my
podcast which is called starve the

133
[00:08:44],110 –> [00:08:48],100
doubts with the gentleman named Phil
Taylor who’s the founder of thin con

134
[00:08:48],100 –> [00:08:52],930
it’s the financial bloggers conference
they’ve done several really big events

135
[00:08:52],930 –> [00:08:56],920
that have been very profitable that been
very successful and I had Philip on my

136
[00:08:56],920 –> [00:09:00],640
podcast as a guest i was able to
interview him and ask him questions and

137
[00:09:00],640 –> [00:09:04],779
learn from him and he was extremely
generous and that created a connection

138
[00:09:04],779 –> [00:09:10],360
between Phil Taylor and I or PT is a
column so guess what when I went back to

139
[00:09:10],360 –> [00:09:13],850
PT and I said hey Petey can I have a
phone call with you in this

140
[00:09:13],850 –> [00:09:19],639
group and can we ask you questions about
if you were to start your conference all

141
[00:09:19],639 –> [00:09:24],290
over again what you would do differently
he graciously agreed to a one-on-one our

142
[00:09:24],290 –> [00:09:29],329
phone call with us at no charge where we
could ask you those questions and we

143
[00:09:29],329 –> [00:09:33],170
were able to completely learn from a pro
someone who does this someone who knows

144
[00:09:33],170 –> [00:09:39],290
what to avoid what not to do what to do
and we got all those answers and once we

145
[00:09:39],290 –> [00:09:43],790
knew those things with the next thing we
had to do Jo’s we have to validate the

146
[00:09:43],790 –> [00:09:47],719
idea right it doesn’t make sense to just
act on anything that you think of you

147
[00:09:47],720 –> [00:09:50],300
might have a dozen ideas but just
because you have the idea doesn’t mean

148
[00:09:50],300 –> [00:09:53],120
someone’s gonna buy that idea or pay for
it

149
[00:09:53],120 –> [00:09:57],920
so now there’s ways to do what’s called
marketing before you manufacture and

150
[00:09:57],920 –> [00:10:00],439
anybody that’s interested in any kind of
online business

151
[00:10:00],440 –> [00:10:06],259
this is a key thing to take away here if
you buy a airline ticket you buy that

152
[00:10:06],259 –> [00:10:09],680
airline ticket you don’t necessarily get
on that plane right that moment not

153
[00:10:09],680 –> [00:10:14],779
always right so what is what happened is
the airline has sold you something

154
[00:10:14],779 –> [00:10:15],860
before you did it

155
[00:10:15],860 –> [00:10:19],699
that’s called marketing before you
manufacture there’s ways to do that now

156
[00:10:19],699 –> [00:10:23],479
where you could test ideas and you can
see are people going to pay for this or

157
[00:10:23],480 –> [00:10:28],160
not if they’re going to pay for it then
you can create it right and and that is

158
[00:10:28],160 –> [00:10:30],889
completely ethical as long as you have
integrity and you’re going to follow

159
[00:10:30],889 –> [00:10:34],130
through and do tree do what you say
you’re going to do now if you don’t have

160
[00:10:34],130 –> [00:10:37],189
integrity I wouldn’t suggest that you
try that method but we needed to

161
[00:10:37],189 –> [00:10:41],569
validate the idea Joe so we went to
Kickstarter we did a campaign and our

162
[00:10:41],569 –> [00:10:46],9
goal is to raise $MONEY eleven thousand
dollars primarily to book a small

163
[00:10:46],9 –> [00:10:50],779
conference center in a suburb of Dallas
we knew if we could get 11 grand over a

164
[00:10:50],779 –> [00:10:55],9
period of 30 days you know that was our
validation we knew ok we have enough

165
[00:10:55],9 –> [00:10:58],939
money it’s not a lot but it’s enough
money to put on a small podcast event

166
[00:10:58],939 –> [00:11:02],120
that’s bigger than just a regional about
you know we could call it the national

167
[00:11:02],120 –> [00:11:06],79
conference and then we went to friends
and this is funny do you

168
[00:11:06],79 –> [00:11:10],339
anybody that is into online marketing or
business they’ll know it’s really

169
[00:11:10],339 –> [00:11:14],180
important to have a big email list when
you’re trying to market to people we

170
[00:11:14],180 –> [00:11:17],180
didn’t have an email list at all Joe we
had nothing

171
[00:11:17],750 –> [00:11:22],339
we had friends who were podcasters and
we went to those friends we said hey

172
[00:11:22],339 –> [00:11:26],89
we’re thinking about doing this event
would you speak at the event would you

173
[00:11:26],89 –> [00:11:27],470
attend the event would you suck

174
[00:11:27],470 –> [00:11:32],240
corte kickstarter campaign to put on
this event and all of them said yes they

175
[00:11:32],240 –> [00:11:35],630
shared it with their networks we had
several people we taught you and I

176
[00:11:35],630 –> [00:11:38],750
talked before that you hit the record
button about a gentleman named John Lee

177
[00:11:38],750 –> [00:11:43],700
Dumas from entrepreneurial fire he was
the first person the first person with a

178
[00:11:43],700 –> [00:11:47],840
good reputation and real big reputation
that said yes to the podcast movement is

179
[00:11:47],840 –> [00:11:48],800
something I’ve never

180
[00:11:48],800 –> [00:11:52],490
yeah that’s just extremely generous of
him to do that and then of course as

181
[00:11:52],490 –> [00:11:56],000
soon as John Lee Dumas was on board a
lot more people jumped in there was just

182
[00:11:56],000 –> [00:12:00],170
something about the John Lee Dumas
effect that really helped our our

183
[00:12:00],170 –> [00:12:04],490
initial efforts i mean this was just a
paragraph on an email at that moment

184
[00:12:04],490 –> [00:12:09],620
nobody knew what this was it was no
fancy you know where the podcast

185
[00:12:09],620 –> [00:12:12],500
movement t-shirt your listeners can’t
see this but it’s a really cool design

186
[00:12:12],500 –> [00:12:18],140
and logo and this didn’t exist in
January right so we’ve had explained

187
[00:12:18],140 –> [00:12:22],130
what it was enough people caught the
vision and we put on that Kickstarter

188
[00:12:22],130 –> [00:12:28],160
campaign and within nine hours Joe we
hit 11 thousand dollars and then fast

189
[00:12:28],160 –> [00:12:32],360
forward to the end of the 30 days we had
over thirty thousand dollars of three

190
[00:12:32],360 –> [00:12:36],740
hundred percent of our goal and now as
of today five weeks away from the actual

191
[00:12:36],740 –> [00:12:42],440
event we’ve sold 550 tickets to an event
that hasn’t even happened yet a complete

192
[00:12:42],440 –> [00:12:47],540
idea of what if podcasters could come
together a national now international

193
[00:12:47],540 –> [00:12:51],650
conference because we have people coming
from Europe from South America and from

194
[00:12:51],650 –> [00:12:54],20
Australia which just blows my mind

195
[00:12:54],20 –> [00:12:58],460
you know what would happen if an event
was created for podcasters by podcasters

196
[00:12:58],460 –> [00:13:02],120
and therefore we have the podcast
movement and that’s gonna be again

197
[00:13:02],120 –> [00:13:06],80
August sixteenth and seventeenth in
dallas texas so if you’re listening to

198
[00:13:06],80 –> [00:13:09],230
this before then come on out podcast
movement com

199
[00:13:09],230 –> [00:13:12],260
yeah I’ll have this show will be out
before that happened there

200
[00:13:13],160 –> [00:13:19],219
so what would you say inspires you what
inspires me is good people like yourself

201
[00:13:19],220 –> [00:13:23],900
Joe I mean it’s not easy to a podcast
you can be a lot of work with the

202
[00:13:23],900 –> [00:13:28],819
preparation with show notes with the
recording if you’re doing your own audio

203
[00:13:28],820 –> [00:13:34],880
editing it can be a lot of work so
people who do this are either crazy or

204
[00:13:34],880 –> [00:13:39],439
they just love it and they want to
really provide value to people and Joe’s

205
[00:13:39],440 –> [00:13:40],620
case he loves it

206
[00:13:40],620 –> [00:13:46],50
to provide value so that pumps me up man
because that’s that’s cool i did that

207
[00:13:46],50 –> [00:13:50],40
and and I want to help people like you
Joe continued to take that message and

208
[00:13:50],40 –> [00:13:53],430
spread that out that’s why we do podcast
movements to give them an opportunity to

209
[00:13:53],430 –> [00:13:56],819
connect with other podcasters but also
learn from some of the best podcasters

210
[00:13:56],820 –> [00:14:00],840
out there and even for that person is
aspiring to podcast they can come to an

211
[00:14:00],840 –> [00:14:05],310
event like podcast movement and they can
learn a lot of really good stuff so when

212
[00:14:05],310 –> [00:14:08],910
they launched their ready to launch with
a bang and do the best possible launch

213
[00:14:08],910 –> [00:14:12],689
you can do for podcast other than just
hitting a record and putting something

214
[00:14:12],690 –> [00:14:16],800
in itunes and almost anybody can do that
but if you put some strategy into it and

215
[00:14:16],800 –> [00:14:22],170
have a setup like Joe Pardo hasn’t his
awesome studio man you can you could be

216
[00:14:22],170 –> [00:14:26],579
the next the next big thing you could be
the next Joe part of low now

217
[00:14:26],580 –> [00:14:34],890
oh no and even next year party yeah but
you know you I gotta say you do maybe

218
[00:14:34],890 –> [00:14:38],850
wanna book that ticket from California
to Dallas you know i’ll be in the middle

219
[00:14:38],850 –> [00:14:40],380
of the vacation

220
[00:14:40],380 –> [00:14:43],770
well that’s okay vacations a good thing
too and yeah we mentioned this is a

221
[00:14:43],770 –> [00:14:46],920
virtual ticket so somebody that could
that’s listen to this land man i’d love

222
[00:14:46],920 –> [00:14:50],400
to go but I can’t there is a virtual
ticket you can actually purchase the HD

223
[00:14:50],400 –> [00:14:55],890
videos of all the sessions and view
those after the fact so if you can’t

224
[00:14:55],890 –> [00:15:00],449
make it there is a virtual pass and I’m
sure that Joe have a affiliate link as

225
[00:15:00],450 –> [00:15:01],290
he should

226
[00:15:01],290 –> [00:15:06],870
in the show notes we go check that out
yeah yeah yeah definitely he so how did

227
[00:15:06],870 –> [00:15:13],80
you dream of podcasting come about I was
in a job a day job where I was

228
[00:15:13],80 –> [00:15:17],130
successful and I had done all the right
things and I had one you know the big

229
[00:15:17],130 –> [00:15:21],870
bonus at the end of the year and I was
number one in my my group and number one

230
[00:15:21],870 –> [00:15:26],670
in billable time and all these
categories really nobody cares about i

231
[00:15:26],670 –> [00:15:30],360
think at the end of the day Joe had
climbed this ladder and i realized i was

232
[00:15:30],360 –> [00:15:35],610
on the wrong wall and that was
discouraging because I knew man i gotta

233
[00:15:35],610 –> [00:15:39],630
do something beyond just working at this
particular job there’s nothing wrong

234
[00:15:39],630 –> [00:15:44],460
working a day job that’s totally cool
but at this point I was not happy with

235
[00:15:44],460 –> [00:15:49],920
where I was and one of things that
happened based off of that frustration

236
[00:15:49],920 –> [00:15:52],610
was it compelled me to start

237
[00:15:52],610 –> [00:15:56],959
reading books listening to audiobooks
and of course listening to podcast and

238
[00:15:56],959 –> [00:16:00],949
listening to podcasts that’s when I
started to discover a lot of really good

239
[00:16:00],950 –> [00:16:04],730
business podcast and that was
interesting to me because

240
[00:16:04],730 –> [00:16:07],700
entrepreneurship is something I’m
interested in and I’m not pretending

241
[00:16:07],700 –> [00:16:10],100
that I’m the most successful
entrepreneur that I’ve got it all

242
[00:16:10],100 –> [00:16:15],79
together and that i’m hittin you know
six figures i mean i’m not doing those

243
[00:16:15],79 –> [00:16:20],569
things yet but i have started listening
to these podcasts and that fired me up

244
[00:16:20],570 –> [00:16:24],19
but but that would have never happened
had I not had that discontentment in

245
[00:16:24],19 –> [00:16:29],60
that particular job just that . in my
life I knew hey there’s got to be

246
[00:16:29],60 –> [00:16:32],689
something beyond this and what are some
ways that I can fill my time and I can

247
[00:16:32],690 –> [00:16:37],790
start expanding my mind and growing and
thinking big and and being responsible

248
[00:16:37],790 –> [00:16:42],410
at the same time being smart and i found
that podcasting was a great thing to

249
[00:16:42],410 –> [00:16:45],170
fill my time and the upper anybody
listening

250
[00:16:45],170 –> [00:16:48],709
you’re listening to the show because you
realize this is an opportunity for you

251
[00:16:48],709 –> [00:16:55],69
to continue to grow wiser and just
taking some awesome content and keep

252
[00:16:55],70 –> [00:16:58],190
hitting play on this podcast like we
said the very beginning and you will be

253
[00:16:58],190 –> [00:17:02],89
you’re smarter and you’ll get inspired
it’s going to open up an idea or a door

254
[00:17:02],89 –> [00:17:08],480
that didn’t exist two months ago or even
you know a week ago and that’s powerful

255
[00:17:08],480 –> [00:17:15],110
so you have a huge fan of podcasting and
tell your friends haha ok i really

256
[00:17:15],109 –> [00:17:17],510
appreciate all the kind words about the
show

257
[00:17:17],510 –> [00:17:20],869
it means a lot how is your dream of
podcasting and I guess

258
[00:17:20],869 –> [00:17:26],30
did you leave your job well i left my
job but not voluntarily basically I was

259
[00:17:26],30 –> [00:17:30],918
let go due to budget cuts that was about
10 of us that were let go and it was you

260
[00:17:30],919 –> [00:17:35],210
know not anything I could do about it
since then I i still do stuff on the

261
[00:17:35],210 –> [00:17:38],30
side i do contracting and consulting
that has nothing to do with

262
[00:17:38],30 –> [00:17:41],480
point-of-sale are scheming i do . still
contracting with nothing to do with

263
[00:17:41],480 –> [00:17:45],559
podcasting is what i meant to say and
you know that’s okay that’s that’s what

264
[00:17:45],559 –> [00:17:48],799
pays the bills and I have a wife and the
three-year-old daughter she’s amazing

265
[00:17:48],799 –> [00:17:52],100
and the mortgage so i got
responsibilities I get it I understand

266
[00:17:52],100 –> [00:17:56],809
that said though there are some cool
opportunities in the entrepreneur world

267
[00:17:56],809 –> [00:18:00],168
and right now a lot of that is focused
on podcasting but you know what we’ll

268
[00:18:00],169 –> [00:18:01],250
see where things go

269
[00:18:01],250 –> [00:18:04],130
you know right now i’m pretty happy i’m
not working at nine to five

270
[00:18:04],130 –> [00:18:08],390
doing the consulting stuff and that can
be good and that can be crazy at times

271
[00:18:08],390 –> [00:18:12],200
too but I wouldn’t have it any other way
man i’m pretty happy right now Joe well

272
[00:18:12],200 –> [00:18:17],300
I was received by your family when you
decide to start podcasting my mom my mom

273
[00:18:17],300 –> [00:18:21],740
loved it like I can you know actually I
don’t have to pick up a phone and you

274
[00:18:21],740 –> [00:18:25],640
know wait for Jared actually call me
back now she can actually listen to me

275
[00:18:25],640 –> [00:18:30],230
and then my wife she jokes not so much
any not she doesn’t look like this

276
[00:18:30],230 –> [00:18:34],850
anymore but in the beginning she called
it my mistress because i was spending a

277
[00:18:34],850 –> [00:18:38],300
lot of time podcasting more shit more
than a husband probably should

278
[00:18:38],300 –> [00:18:43],460
so I’ve done a better job of having that
family home work-life balance but she

279
[00:18:43],460 –> [00:18:47],270
gets it now she sees the the things that
are happening podcast movement and she’s

280
[00:18:47],270 –> [00:18:52],280
pretty excited about the direction but
there are days you know like any husband

281
[00:18:52],280 –> [00:18:58],100
and wife and any family but the mic down
but the phone away no more podcasts lets

282
[00:18:58],100 –> [00:19:02],929
you know what’s actually be a family and
I’m so thankful for her she she balances

283
[00:19:02],930 –> [00:19:06],50
me out you know because i want to get
into something i really like it and it’d

284
[00:19:06],50 –> [00:19:09],500
be really easy for me to spend more time
than i should on it and I think that’s

285
[00:19:09],500 –> [00:19:13],730
why God allowed me to marry my wife
because he keeps me grounded in a good

286
[00:19:13],730 –> [00:19:16],610
way and she’s actually gonna be a
podcast me so I’m excited about that

287
[00:19:16],610 –> [00:19:19],370
that’s awesome so what steps did you
take to get started once you’ve decided

288
[00:19:19],370 –> [00:19:24],649
that you want to do a podcast for me I
actually took a course and i took a

289
[00:19:24],650 –> [00:19:27],680
premium course that was really expensive
it was so expensive I couldn’t even

290
[00:19:27],680 –> [00:19:32],840
afford it in one payment and i had to
write to the gentleman a guy named cliff

291
[00:19:32],840 –> [00:19:36],860
ravenscraft is the podcast answer man
and just the testimony of his generosity

292
[00:19:36],860 –> [00:19:42],919
his course at the time was eight hundred
dollars and I new man there’s no way my

293
[00:19:42],920 –> [00:19:46],610
wife is gonna allow me to spend eight
hundred dollars on a podcasting course

294
[00:19:46],610 –> [00:19:50],899
like a hobby like and some people play
golf and blow it in her books over the

295
[00:19:50],900 –> [00:19:53],600
course of several weeks or you know a
week or two

296
[00:19:53],600 –> [00:19:57],919
no no big deal but there’s some budgets
out there somebody’s listening I don’t

297
[00:19:57],920 –> [00:20:01],70
have that in my budget now one of those
guys so a hundred bucks is a pretty big

298
[00:20:01],70 –> [00:20:03],679
commitment i wrote the Cliff said I
really want to take this course I

299
[00:20:03],680 –> [00:20:06],950
believe in what you’re doing i love what
you’re sharing and I believe I have the

300
[00:20:06],950 –> [00:20:10],730
potential to be a decent podcaster but i
don’t have a $MONEY dollars– could have

301
[00:20:10],730 –> [00:20:14],60
split up the payments and he was
gracious to work out some kind of

302
[00:20:14],60 –> [00:20:15],610
structure with me that we were

303
[00:20:15],610 –> [00:20:20],949
agree on and and i took the course and
it was funny because right out the gate

304
[00:20:20],950 –> [00:20:27],700
cliff who I absolutely love and respect
he says you know if you’re going to have

305
[00:20:27],700 –> [00:20:33],549
a good podcast a good podcast you need
to pull a joe Pardo and you have my

306
[00:20:33],549 –> [00:20:39],760
elaborate studio package by the way
here’s my affiliate link and it was like

307
[00:20:39],760 –> [00:20:42],490
man eight hundred dollars for this
course to realize i got to spend now

308
[00:20:42],490 –> [00:20:46],330
thousand dollars or whatever it was I’m
not throwing out a member may not have

309
[00:20:46],330 –> [00:20:49],480
been that much for this really know

310
[00:20:49],480 –> [00:20:55],510
nice studio package because I didn’t
have a good studio and good podcasting

311
[00:20:55],510 –> [00:21:00],40
hardware people might not enjoy the
audio quality of my show that was

312
[00:21:00],40 –> [00:21:03],610
discouraging joke so discouraging I
didn’t start a podcast for nine months

313
[00:21:03],610 –> [00:21:07],510
after that course and the only thing
that really changed the game for me as I

314
[00:21:07],510 –> [00:21:11],530
found out about this $40 microphone the
audio-technica and when I found out

315
[00:21:11],530 –> [00:21:15],340
about that was like okay there’s really
no more excuses for me i need to start a

316
[00:21:15],340 –> [00:21:19],570
podcast that’s exactly what I didn’t
want to conference i made a bunch of the

317
[00:21:19],570 –> [00:21:23],860
speakers there ask them if they’d be
gracious enough to be guests on the show

318
[00:21:23],860 –> [00:21:28],240
almost all of them said yes plan those
interviews did a bunch of them and then

319
[00:21:28],240 –> [00:21:32],950
I had a big stack of interviews that was
ready to launch an itunes and the rest

320
[00:21:32],950 –> [00:21:35],590
is crazy but that’s what happened

321
[00:21:35],590 –> [00:21:38],559
yeah I’m sure your wife wasn’t happy and
you’re like yeah its many hundred

322
[00:21:38],559 –> [00:21:42],40
dollars and it’s been nine months that
it

323
[00:21:42],40 –> [00:21:51],129
yeah well as his is pretty gracious and
humble and paying off overly kind it’s

324
[00:21:51],130 –> [00:21:54],910
starting to starting to see some good
things happen not that I seriously I’ve

325
[00:21:54],910 –> [00:21:59],799
had business come from podcasting where
people have asked me to coach them or

326
[00:21:59],799 –> [00:22:04],780
give them consulting and I’ve had
affiliate sales I’ve had that money

327
[00:22:04],780 –> [00:22:08],320
podcasting haven’t made the money John
do this makes but I mean I’m pretty

328
[00:22:08],320 –> [00:22:13],120
happy with it i mean it’s it’s produced
more than I paid in that course and I

329
[00:22:13],120 –> [00:22:17],649
mean okay i’d say several times over so
i’m not rich off podcasting but I’ve

330
[00:22:17],650 –> [00:22:19],600
definitely made that money back and then
some

331
[00:22:19],600 –> [00:22:23],830
so of roblox as you hit along the way
I’ll roadblocks everybody its roblox so

332
[00:22:23],830 –> [00:22:26],649
if you’re listening to this you think
you know there’s the perfect path

333
[00:22:26],650 –> [00:22:30],430
and you just prey on something you don’t
need to be on and and stop spending

334
[00:22:30],430 –> [00:22:36],190
money on that stuff but that said
roadblocks are going to happen and and

335
[00:22:36],190 –> [00:22:39],670
you know it’s funny you bring that up
because my show is called starve the

336
[00:22:39],670 –> [00:22:43],450
dowels and it’s about overcoming
self-doubt and that’s where I interview

337
[00:22:43],450 –> [00:22:47],230
successful people and high achievers and
ask them hey how to overcome self-doubt

338
[00:22:47],230 –> [00:22:51],790
to get to the level of your ad and it’s
fascinating to hear their stories but

339
[00:22:51],790 –> [00:22:55],240
you know learn there’s a good fear and a
bad for your right so if you see that

340
[00:22:55],240 –> [00:22:59],740
snake on that trail that rattlesnake
you’re not gonna go near the snake is a

341
[00:22:59],740 –> [00:23:01],990
possibility you’re gonna get bit

342
[00:23:01],990 –> [00:23:06],40
that’s a good fear that’s a healthy fear
in the Bible says that the fear of the

343
[00:23:06],40 –> [00:23:10],960
lord is the beginning of wisdom right
it’s good it’s ok if your God and then I

344
[00:23:10],960 –> [00:23:14],200
think fear is something that could be
good in the sense that it could say hey

345
[00:23:14],200 –> [00:23:20],620
hold up are you prepared you know are
you prepared for this outcome right and

346
[00:23:20],620 –> [00:23:24],850
if you can manage fear and that and I
want my tell you can say hey it’s okay

347
[00:23:24],850 –> [00:23:27],760
to have the good fear and then there’s
the nonsense the stuff in your mind

348
[00:23:27],760 –> [00:23:31],660
that’s saying you know I can’t be the
next Joe part i can’t afford this fancy

349
[00:23:31],660 –> [00:23:35],980
studio I can’t be cool and go to
California my vacation whatever your

350
[00:23:35],980 –> [00:23:40],60
mind is telling you don’t believe that
is just proof that this could be telling

351
[00:23:40],60 –> [00:23:44],649
right so that everything I i think when
you have roadblocks you know they’ll

352
[00:23:44],650 –> [00:23:49],930
often fail forward when there’s all
kinds of different quotes on that stuff

353
[00:23:49],930 –> [00:23:53],770
but the people that get up pick
themselves up dust themselves up and

354
[00:23:53],770 –> [00:23:54],820
keep going

355
[00:23:54],820 –> [00:24:01],90
eventually if you do that long enough
you will out last the lucky and you will

356
[00:24:01],90 –> [00:24:06],909
out work the lazy will say that again
you’ll outlast the lucky and you outwork

357
[00:24:06],910 –> [00:24:11],140
the lazy and that is the beginning of
success so could you share favorite

358
[00:24:11],140 –> [00:24:17],860
memory favorite memory man one time I
was on this podcast Joe part of tearing

359
[00:24:17],860 –> [00:24:21],969
up just thinking about it to do so good
i love memories man memories are great i

360
[00:24:21],970 –> [00:24:25],630
love music music always is a nostalgic
for me and one of the questions always

361
[00:24:25],630 –> [00:24:29],380
asked at the beginning of every podcast
episode I don’t started out as I asked

362
[00:24:29],380 –> [00:24:30],190
the guests

363
[00:24:30],190 –> [00:24:34],120
what’s the best concert you’ve ever been
to it’s just an icebreaker question

364
[00:24:34],120 –> [00:24:37],299
that’s really funny to hear someone like
a seth godin

365
[00:24:37],299 –> [00:24:42],309
the New York Times bestselling author
multiple times just huge influence in

366
[00:24:42],309 –> [00:24:46],269
huge impact and you know him talking
about his favorite concert is a lot of

367
[00:24:46],269 –> [00:24:51],489
fun so I love concerts I love music and
there’s a band that I really love right

368
[00:24:51],489 –> [00:24:54],879
now that encourage anybody listening to
check out school they’re called green

369
[00:24:54],879 –> [00:25:00],340
river ordinance green river ordinance
and they just put out a new album called

370
[00:25:00],340 –> [00:25:06],908
the collection and acoustic all their
best hits acoustic unplugged version of

371
[00:25:06],909 –> [00:25:12],730
those songs and I’ve got that thing on
constant play on my iPhone and I it just

372
[00:25:12],730 –> [00:25:16],779
takes me back to the last several years
different moments in my life and that’s

373
[00:25:16],779 –> [00:25:21],159
why i love that music and you know i was
laughing today as looking at my daughter

374
[00:25:21],159 –> [00:25:25],899
she’s three and i was thinking about you
know just a year ago how much she’s

375
[00:25:25],899 –> [00:25:30],580
grown in one year and just the things he
says thinks he does and I spend as much

376
[00:25:30],580 –> [00:25:32],259
time with her as possible

377
[00:25:32],259 –> [00:25:37],299
that’s like my daily reset button when I
have those bumps like you described when

378
[00:25:37],299 –> [00:25:41],109
I have those rough days it’s so nice to
have a loving wife and a cute little

379
[00:25:41],109 –> [00:25:44],559
three-year-old daughter who likes to be
with her daddy just to bring that

380
[00:25:44],559 –> [00:25:48],70
perspective and yeah man always making
new memories I think that’s a that’s a

381
[00:25:48],70 –> [00:25:48],820
good way to live

382
[00:25:48],820 –> [00:25:52],299
so is there any disappointment you have
a podcasting so far thinks it’s always

383
[00:25:52],299 –> [00:25:57],730
disappoints depending on your frame of
thinking or the way you’re looking at

384
[00:25:57],730 –> [00:26:02],649
things your perspective right so i could
be disappointed that a number of things

385
[00:26:02],649 –> [00:26:08],379
right now but I try not to i try to
re-frame what I’m thinking and that

386
[00:26:08],379 –> [00:26:13],600
that’s so critical to success in
anything you do is is how do you look at

387
[00:26:13],600 –> [00:26:16],570
the situation how are you looking at
something it’s easy

388
[00:26:16],570 –> [00:26:21],369
most people can complain and bitch and
moan about something but the people that

389
[00:26:21],369 –> [00:26:25],238
seem to really take it to the next level
and do big things are the people that

390
[00:26:25],239 –> [00:26:30],730
don’t sit there and and focus on all the
negative but they they reflect on that

391
[00:26:30],730 –> [00:26:34],629
they think how are you know how can i
overcome that how can I move around that

392
[00:26:34],629 –> [00:26:39],939
so yeah I get disappointed sometimes but
sometimes that’s not necessarily a bad

393
[00:26:39],940 –> [00:26:44],409
thing it’s just like saying hey this is
an opportunity to shift your pivot and

394
[00:26:44],409 –> [00:26:48],429
take a new step in a different direction
so that’s exactly what i try to do but

395
[00:26:48],429 –> [00:26:50],530
yeah you know if you ever tell me the
joke part of

396
[00:26:50],530 –> [00:26:53],290
Jose being canceled that would be a
disappointment you don’t know how to

397
[00:26:53],290 –> [00:26:59],740
overcome that one that had neither so
what do you change the future look like

398
[00:26:59],740 –> [00:27:04],180
for the future is podcast movement is in
August it’s gonna be awesome and then

399
[00:27:04],180 –> [00:27:09],100
we’re gonna do a podcast movement
potentially in other countries so I mean

400
[00:27:09],100 –> [00:27:09],850
we’ll see

401
[00:27:09],850 –> [00:27:14],260
right dream big right writing a book
right now I want that to be an Amazon

402
[00:27:14],260 –> [00:27:17],440
best-selling book I want to eventually
have a traditional published book which

403
[00:27:17],440 –> [00:27:21],10
is hilarious because i’m not really a
writer but you know I I’m not gonna let

404
[00:27:21],10 –> [00:27:24],10
that stop me right I want to lose about
20 pounds

405
[00:27:24],700 –> [00:27:29],680
no only on the audio here I sound like
I’m an Ironman and and just keep

406
[00:27:29],680 –> [00:27:32],950
thinking that and believe in that I want
you to because eventually i probably

407
[00:27:32],950 –> [00:27:37],570
will be that Iran but I’m not today that
that’s an opportunity for me and yeah

408
[00:27:37],570 –> [00:27:41],350
that’s that’s the future man just
continued love my family and do my best

409
[00:27:41],350 –> [00:27:44],889
for them and provide as much value as i
can and helping good people like Joe

410
[00:27:44],890 –> [00:27:48],40
Parr to make good podcast so is there
any last thoughts you’d like to share

411
[00:27:48],40 –> [00:27:54],70
the final thoughts is trying to get
noticed online be the noticer people

412
[00:27:54],70 –> [00:27:58],120
love it when you say their name people
love it when you mention them so that’s

413
[00:27:58],120 –> [00:28:01],479
a big thing right now is people trying
to do online businesses are trying to

414
[00:28:01],480 –> [00:28:04],240
you know build their social media
following things that I think the thing

415
[00:28:04],240 –> [00:28:08],350
that works more than anything else is
when you notice other people so just

416
[00:28:08],350 –> [00:28:12],399
pick three or four people that you like
that you respect what they’re doing and

417
[00:28:12],400 –> [00:28:16],480
that are not high up the ladder they’re
kinda you know maybe a little one step

418
[00:28:16],480 –> [00:28:21],70
or two steps above you and start sharing
our content or commenting on their blog

419
[00:28:21],70 –> [00:28:24],939
or every so often send them an email to
just appreciate them as long as it’s

420
[00:28:24],940 –> [00:28:28],360
authentic and genuine you’ll start to
create a report with these people

421
[00:28:29],20 –> [00:28:33],879
you can create that rapport that has the
opportunity to generate reciprocity

422
[00:28:33],880 –> [00:28:39],10
right so these people who your generous
to eventually gonna say nice things

423
[00:28:39],10 –> [00:28:43],420
about you or they’re going to share your
podcast episode or whatever you’re doing

424
[00:28:43],420 –> [00:28:48],10
and when you’re by yourself it’s easy to
get lost in the crowd but when you build

425
[00:28:48],10 –> [00:28:49],120
an army

426
[00:28:49],120 –> [00:28:54],189
it’s really easy to notice the army
right the army gets noticed so the best

427
[00:28:54],190 –> [00:28:57],820
way to build the Army is to start by
noticing other people and as you notice

428
[00:28:57],820 –> [00:29:01],000
other people in your generation
authentic and doing that that creates

429
[00:29:01],000 –> [00:29:02],860
that report which will then

430
[00:29:02],860 –> [00:29:06],669
generate that reciprocity and that’s how
you get noticed would you like to plug

431
[00:29:06],670 –> [00:29:11],799
all your website’s my podcast is over it
started out . com so if you want to

432
[00:29:11],799 –> [00:29:15],400
listen to another podcast after only
after you’ve listened to joe’s latest

433
[00:29:15],400 –> [00:29:19],179
episode because that’s priority but
after that if you had time for one more

434
[00:29:19],179 –> [00:29:22],840
start with Alex calm and then again we
mentioned it and I think we should

435
[00:29:22],840 –> [00:29:26],590
mention again podcast movie.com this is
an event even if you’re not a podcaster

436
[00:29:26],590 –> [00:29:29],530
be okay that might be something for me
this is something you want to check out

437
[00:29:29],530 –> [00:29:32],770
and then let’s say you’re listening to
this several months advancing and

438
[00:29:32],770 –> [00:29:38],860
podcast moments done guess what there’s
pod move.com p.o.d mov calm and that is

439
[00:29:38],860 –> [00:29:43],540
an online university for podcasters by
podcasters right so all these expert

440
[00:29:43],540 –> [00:29:47],409
podcasters get together sharing their
advice in their wisdom on podcasting of

441
[00:29:47],410 –> [00:29:52],120
all types of levels of skill and it’s
just a great place to come together and

442
[00:29:52],120 –> [00:29:56],439
meet other podcasters online and also
get a lot of really really good advice

443
[00:29:56],440 –> [00:30:00],940
on a variety of topics purity in
movie.com yeah I have all them on the

444
[00:30:00],940 –> [00:30:04],929
show notes at how to dream . co
outstanding well I really appreciate you

445
[00:30:04],929 –> [00:30:08],49
taking the time Jerry to come on the
show and I hope that but he goes and
