Mobile Life: Mail

For the longest time I thought that having push email was the end all, be all of my mobile device. My blackberry pearl had it, and my now (mostly) defunct yahoo account did too, on my iPhone.

About 2 years ago, after switching my primary email over to gmail. Being frustrated with no way to do push email natively. I had my email fetching on my iPhone every 15 minutes. I found myself checking my phone at the most inconvenient times just because it made noise. I felt it was taking over my life and my battery.

After some thought, I decided it was time to change my mindset. It was time to change my ways, and move away from fetching my email. Making my email only update when I decided I had time to check it, was a big step for me at first. Over time I have come to appreciate not having my phone make noise every 15 minutes. I especially love not being woken up in the middle of the night by emails pinging my phone. By taking this step in my mobile life, I started to change the way I use my phone.

I would suggest that if you can, at least try this. You may find that you don’t pull out your phone as often, and can get back to living life.
